The Eaves Are Almost Done!

Today is Royce's 54th Birthday and we have almost completed the eaves!

The eaves are all in their place and half of the top is stained. This was a hard task to accomplish and it took us almost 2 months to get the job done right.

This railing will come in handy when we start nailing the siding up. The shingles collect pine needles and it gets pretty slipperly to walk or move around on the roof.

We still need to be careful because the railing gives you a false sense of security.

Royce is taking a well deserved birthday nap. Happy Birthday Honey!

Top Eaves

Some evenings if we get home early enough to still have daylight to work by, Royce puts a little bit of the eaves wooden frame in place. Then on the weekend we work on the top eaves. It is slow going and the wooden shingles are slippery so Royce stopped work on the eaves to build a safety railing around the top of the treehouse. I guess he was tired of sliding towards the roof edge while trying to measure, and nail the plywood eaves. You have to remember this is a man who was/is afraid of heights when this all started. Now he's working over 23 feet up on the roof a treehouse.

If you look closely you can see the framing around the plywood eaves we had to nail in place.

Royce took a break from working on the eaves to nail on a few of the side boards.

It was beginning to feel like we weren't getting much done and needed a fast feeling of accomplishment.
